Huiyee Chiew (周慧儀) is an award-winning journalist and podcast producer. She received her master's degree at Columbia Journalism School, specializing in investigative reporting. She was trained in investigative techniques, photography, visual storytelling, and open-source intelligence (OSINT) analysis.

 

Born and raised in Malaysia, she later studied and worked in Taipei, Taiwan. With years of professional experience and a diverse cultural background, her work primarily focuses on human rights and immigration issues across Asia. Her stories include undocumented workers in Taiwan, the presidential election in the Philippines, the death penalty in Singapore, feminism in China, and more.

 

Her work has received multiple awards, including two Honorable Mentions from the Human Rights Press Awards for her 2024 podcast on Myanmar journalists reporting under a coup and her 2020 coverage of the stateless Bajau Laut in Malaysia. In 2023, she received an Honorable Mention from the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) for her reporting on the 2022 Philippine presidential election. Her collaborative investigation into the mass deaths of Malaysia’s Batek tribe was also recognized as a SOPA finalist in 2021

She is also a co-author of the Chinese book, "Journalist《新聞記者》," which documents and honors the hard work of journalists worldwide. Her interviews include Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, Pulitzer Prize–winning photojournalist Marcus Yam, and Myanmar reporters Paul and Ye Mon, who covered stories under a coup.
